The Imperative – Weekend Grammar Workshop

The imperative is one of the more complex areas of Hungarian grammar. In this two-hour Weekend Grammar Workshop, we will take a closer look at how the imperative is formed and used, including the changes and special forms that can make this grammar topic particularly challenging for Hungarian learners.

After exploring the grammatical forms, we will actively practise the imperative through mini-dialogues and a variety of speaking activities. The aim is not only to understand and form the correct grammatical forms, but also to use them more confidently and naturally in spoken Hungarian. We will practice the subordinate clauses and imperative as well - and of course in speaking!

Throughout the workshop, we will connect grammatical explanation with active speaking practice, so that you can learn to use the imperative in meaningful, realistic communication situations.

🎃 Is There Halloween in Hungary? – BeszédMűhely on October 31

Pumpkin lanterns, costumes, candles and flowers – how do different traditions coexist in Hungary? In this special two-part BeszédMűhely, with two 60-minute sessions, we’ll talk about how Halloween is celebrated in Hungary, Hungarian traditions at the beginning of November, and how traditions change over time.

Of course, we’ll read model texts related to the topic and learn the key language expressions used in debates. With the help of these models, you’ll be able to confidently share your own experiences and compare traditions across cultures. Is it a good thing that Halloween is becoming increasingly popular in Hungary, or should Hungarians focus instead on preserving their own traditions? The Conditional – Weekend Grammar Workshop

In this Grammaműhely session, we’ll review the forms of the conditional mood and then practise asking favours through speaking activities. You’ll learn how to ask for help politely and naturally in everyday situations. The focus is on using grammar actively and developing your speaking skills.

The Conditional – Weekend Grammar Workshop

What else can you do with the conditional mood besides asking favours? In this Grammaműhely session, we’ll practise its other functions in a variety of speaking situations: expressing consequences, making suggestions, and using structures such as mintha (“as if”), ahelyett, hogy (“instead of”) and anélkül, hogy (“without”). The aim is to help you move beyond recognising grammatical forms and start using them confidently in conversation.
